Hamish and Marieth’s ceremony at Po’olenalena Beach in Wailea captured the essence of an intimate Hawaii wedding. Surrounded by just 15 of their closest family and friends, they celebrated their love in a way that felt deeply personal and meaningful. Po’olenalena Beach, known for its golden sand and stunning sunset views, provided the perfect setting for their special day.
Marieth, originally from Táchira, Venezuela, found herself in Maui through a series of life changes during the pandemic. Hamish, a Seattle native, has lived on Maui for several years, dedicating his career to construction and historic home restoration. Marieth, a talented industrial designer, met Hamish at work and has loved him ever since. It’s no surprise that their love story blossomed on this beautiful island, both sharing a passion for creativity, hard work, and family.
Their Hawaii Wedding Ceremony
Their day began with an intimate first look in Makena, where Hamish saw Marieth in her elegant and creative wedding dress for the first time. It was a quiet, emotional moment that allowed them to relax and ground themselves before the big event.
Shortly after, they arrived at Po’olenalena Beach, where Marieth’s sister Massiel walked her down the aisle, presenting her to Hamish.
The ceremony, officiated by Kuya, was both joyful and rich in Hawaiian tradition. After exchanging vows, Hamish and Marieth gave lei to their guests as a gesture of aloha and respect. In Hawaiian culture, the giving of a lei symbolizes love, unity, and the weaving together of family and friends.
To seal their union, the ceremonial blowing of the pū (conch shell) echoed across the beach, a sacred Hawaiian blessing to honor new beginnings.
As the sun dipped behind the ocean, creating a golden glow across the waves, the newlyweds celebrated with their loved ones.
This wedding held special meaning for me as well. Marieth was one of my first friends here on Maui. Documenting her journey to this moment, from meeting Hamish to creating a life together, was truly special.
