Paul started planning this his Maui proposal months before their trip. He knew he wanted it to be intimate, thoughtful, and unforgettable. Maui already felt like the perfect place, and Maluaka Beach—with its grassy overlooks and soft evening light—offered a quiet corner to ask the biggest question of their story together.
Their Story
Paul and his fiancée go way back. They knew of each other in high school but didn’t officially meet until 2016 through a mutual friend. For years, he kept asking her out, persistent but patient. It wasn’t until 2022 that she finally said yes to a date, a hike in Malibu. At the time, she told him she wasn’t ready for anything serious after a long relationship. Paul respected that. But the very next morning, she called. And she hasn’t stopped ever since.
From that day on, their story unfolded naturally. Every moment together built toward this one.
Originally, Paul considered proposing closer to home in Laguna Beach, surrounded by family and friends. But once Maui was on the calendar, everything changed. He knew this was where it had to happen. Just the two of them, far from expectations, close to the ocean she loves so much. Her birthday had been just a few days earlier, and when she blew out her candles, she told him her wish was to get engaged.
And here it was, about to come true.
The Proposal
On the day of, Andrea (our florist) and I arrived early to set up. A circle of colorful flowers and the “Marry Me” sign, rested just above the ocean backdrop.
Paul told her they were meeting a co-worker before dinner. It was the perfect excuse to have her dressed up, with no idea what was waiting at the end of the path.
As they walked across the grass, the sun was beginning to dip. The ocean was calm, the flowers were glowing in the golden light, and everything felt still for a moment. Paul dropped to one knee. She said yes!
