Chris & Tiffany’s Maui Engagement: A Story of Love, Friendship, and New Beginnings

Maui Engagement Photo Session

There’s something special about capturing the love story of two people you’ve shared a big part of your own journey with. This wasn’t just another Maui engagement photoshoot, because Tiffany isn’t just any client; she was actually my very first friend when I moved to Maui.

Back then, I had just arrived from Florida, ready to start a new chapter in my photography career on the Big Island. But life had other plans. A month later, COVID hit, and like so many of us, I had to press pause and reassess everything. I found myself jobless, in a brand-new place, without family or a support system. And then there was Tiffany.

We were both navigating uncertainty, but somehow, through all of it, we found adventure. Tiffany became my hike buddy, my business ally, and eventually one of my closest friends.

She’s the kind of friend who’s always down for a spontaneous road trip, a fun photography concept, or a deep conversation over wine. So, when she asked me to photograph her engagement to Chris, I knew this had to be something special.

Tiffany met Chris in 2017, just a year after moving to Maui and following her divorce. They started dating, and though she knew he was an incredible human being, she wasn’t ready to settle down just yet. Two years in, she decided to step away, feeling like she needed to stand on her own for a while.

But life, as it tends to do, had a bigger plan for them. A year later, on a family trip to Lake Tahoe, Tiffany took a leap of faith and messaged Chris. She had no idea if he’d be in a relationship or if he’d even want to meet. But he did. And when she saw him again, she said she “melted” the moment she laid eyes on him. She had done the work to grow, to become more grounded in herself, and suddenly, she was ready for the love she’d once put on hold.

Slowly, they found their way back to each other. Chris eventually moved back to Maui, and this time, they were both all in. Three years later, they’re more in love than ever, planning a future together and embracing the next big chapter as a team. It’s the kind of story that makes you believe in second chances.

Their Maui Engagement Photo Session

We wanted it to feel like a “date” more than a photoshoot, so we planned to have a picnic at a secluded lava rock coastline where the waves crash hard against the black volcanic rock. The energy of the ocean felt symbolic of everything they’d been through together; the highs, the lows, and the power of flowing together into this new life chapter.

What a way to honor the life they’ve built together on Maui.

Soon, they’ll be leaving the island and starting a whole new adventure together, but they’ll carry these memories with them. And honestly, isn’t that what it’s all about? Capturing the moments that remind us of who we are, where we’ve been, and where we’re going.

Tiffany and Chris, thank you for trusting me to capture your love. What a blessing to find that kind of love that makes you take chances. I hope this is just the beginning of many wonderful adventures together!
